When to refer

- Obstructing stone with fever or signs of infection
- Anuria, or blocked solitary kidney
- Acute urinary retention not relieved by catheter
- Heavy haematuria with clots
- Renal colic not settling with analgesia
Send the patient to the nearest emergency room if unstable, and call us.
Routine: within days
- Kidney or ureter stone, new or recurrent
- Stone with hydronephrosis on ultrasound
- Prostate enlargement with poor stream or catheter
- Raised PSA or abnormal prostate on examination
- Painless haematuria
- Recurrent UTI, phimosis, frenulum breve, male infertility
